LI YANG 杨秝
Li Yang, born in Chengdu, China, in 1991, currently resides and works as an artist in New York. She holds a BFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco (2016), an MFA from the Slade School of Art in London (2018), and an MA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2022).
Her artistic expression spans paintings and mixed-media installations, where she intricately blends colors and textures of varying translucency to explore the dynamic relationship between time, space, and human memory.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Li Yang's approach seamlessly merges personal and collective memory. Employing symbols, patterns, scales, and materials, she constructs visual narratives that transcend cultural, geographical, and experiential boundaries. Central to her vision is the power of abstract imagery and sensations, aimed at evoking memories and fostering connections across humanity.
Her artwork invites viewers on a journey through the corridors of memory, blurring the lines between individual experiences, cultural progression, and human collective memory. Drawing inspiration from sensory encounters, she rejuvenates elements of sound, scent, events, and historical narratives across mediums such as painting and sculpture.
